Interesting proposal, but, after editing /etc/profile:

root at h2200:~$ Connection to ipaq closed.
[udo at surfplank2 ~]$ ssh root at ipaq
root at h2200:~$ date
Thu Jul 24 15:07:22 UTC 2008
root at h2200:~$ cat /etc/timezone 
Europe/Paris
root at h2200:~$ cat /etc/timestamp 
071015092008

So we have to touch /etc/localtime:

root at h2200:~$ touch /etc/localtime
root at h2200:~$ Connection to ipaq closed.
[udo at surfplank2 ~]$ ssh root at ipaq
root at h2200:~$ date
Thu Jul 24 17:10:24 CEST 2008
