with new altboot, messages changed a bit, keyboard still not working.  Here are
the new messages:

WARNING: Assignment of OUT_TTY failed (not a tty)!
Warning: can't open /etc/mtab: No such file or directory
Loading initial kernel modules...
     - Searching [locomo-kbd]
     - Assuming module is []
     - Already loaded...

Altboot is a boot-manager... 

Then to the password prompt with no keyboard input.
