Right.
The overhead of X11 is not that large so that X11 is a valid solution
also for mobile and embedded projects.
Especially the trimmed down versions which have become part of the X.org
development are quite efficient these days.
And as I said, if possible I would advise to upgrade your kernel to 2.6
series. This makes many things a lot easier - starting with the fact
that you could reuse some parts from other projects. There is pretty
good support for the Samsung chips in OpenEmbedded already so that you
could get ready made userland packages from there (e.g. for tinyX etc.).
