[Gpephone-devel] Input method

Hi all!
I would like to propose again to have a more close look at the
maemo/hildon input method handling that has been released as open source
recently.
Reason for this is that twofold...

First of all I assume that Nokia will push their input framework upwards
quite quickly. It can be expected to become part of GTK+/Gnome in the
next future, as it has already happened with the Hildon UI. Reusing this
code would reduce effort for us, we would save maintenance effort.

Second, the Maemo input framework is now used in customer devices for
more almost three years. I think it can be called "mature" and stable.
In contrast to our input method which still suffers from some
problems,e.g. when hiding windows and not destroying the windows (the
input method stays open) and some input widgets do not toggle the input
method (multi-line text input widget is one).

Does someone reading this feels like commenting on this topic?
I would be happy to see some discussion about this ;)

Of course abandonning a existing solution hurts but we only have a
limited amount of effort to spend and I think we should concentrate on
more important tasks than the already elsewhere solved ones, if possible.

Cheers
