One idea about finding the focused widget:
If you can get the widget that takes the input from the Gtk input module it
should be easy to decide which method to use - the simplest way might be to add
some magic hint to numeric inputs using g_object_set_data().
Another solution would be to have widgets that select the input method if they
are focused, but i'd like to avoid this...

Yes, that would be a good place for this purpose - it has almost everything we
need already (saves code duplication) and runs all the time...

Sounds like I should polish machined a little bit so that we can release this
too. Do we get GSm signal strength notification for the release? :-)
