I can confirm that it works, that is the good news...

You can get back to X11 by changing back to your virtual terminal your X
session is running on, most likely this will be
	ALT-F7

Inside VMware be careful that the VMware has the mouse focus (you move
the VMware pointer and it shows a pointer not the hand). Then you should
be able to change to VMware's VT1 using (press and hold one after another:
	SHIFT-CTRL-ALT-F1
four keys at a time, start with press and hold SHIFT and then the next
keys. That should be the safest.
