if I remember correctly they simply added these property to GtkEditable or
similar. In fact properly implemented that would be a quite useful thing for
upstream GTK.
A possible hack that would not involve an API change would be to add this
information as a named data pointer to an object. That would be an easy way to
introduce and test this feature. The only thing I'm currently not really sure
about is how to get the matching widget in the input context callback.
