OK, maybe I had a typo in one of these or it doesn't run with the GTK on my PC.
I just added packages and environment setup to OE in order to test them on a
real device and in the VMWare image. I'll report the results here.

This is a good idea but it will not work if you crosscompile. In the (quite
normal) case that you do not build with the host libraries in /usr you will end
up in having the files installed in the wrong subdir. A better solution would be
to pass the correct prefix to configure and use the "$(libdir)" variable.
