Actually, Neal, that is not quite right.  I have fixed MANY problems in
libmimedir parsing, both actual bugs and cases of not being liberal in what
is accepts!  I think I have fixed almost all cases I know about (not to say
there are not more!) except those that I thought had potential to break
correctly formatted files.

Make sure you are using the latest SVN code of GPE's libmmedir-gnome.

I can't go through the 500-odd examples the original message pointed to. 
However, if the problem still exists with the latest code I would suggest
the original poster uses a binary search on the failing file to identify the
actual entry being complained about and then reports a bug in bugzilla
with the failing entry.  I am happy to take a look at it.
