Yes. You can report bugs, and check out the currently known bugs, using the
GPE bugzilla: http://bugs.linuxtogo.org/. This is reported as bug number
128: http://bugs.linuxtogo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=128. Feel free to add
yourself as a CC: to get reports on progress.
The big problem has been that none of the GPE developers had a chinook device
to debug the problem on. I received my N810 yesterday so I hope to have this
fixed fairly quickly (but due to pressure of work it may not be until next
week -- watch the bug report for news).

For complete GPE releases, see the GPE roadmap:
http://www.linuxtogo.org/gowiki/GPERoadmap. This hasn't been updated
recently, although 2.8 was released last summer as planned. I normally only
update the main user repositories for Maemo GPE in line with these GPE
releases, as they get most testing.
I do provide automatically built (but not tested) packages for Maemo GPE built
from the latest SVN sources every few days (see
http://www.cobb.uk.net/NokiaIT/daily.html). But I only recommend those for
developers or for getting a particular bugfix before it is more generally
released.
However, once the categories crash is fixed and tested (and possibly one or
two other chinook-specific problems), I will be updating new GPE packages for
chinook into the extras-devel repository, and the new version will be
available from the installation links at
http://www.cobb.uk.net/NokiaIT/index.html#gpe. I will also create pages in
the IT2008 downloads section of the maemo.org site for the GPE components at
that time.
Welcome, again, to the GPE community. And if you feel like contributing
(development, bug fixing, testing or writing howtos and documentation) please
feel free to help!
Graham
