The error message is a little confusing but is basically correct.  The VEVENT
you sent me does not include a DTSTART property.  RFC 2445 is quite clear:

4.8.2.4 Date/Time Start

   Description: Within the "VEVENT" calendar component, this property
   defines the start date and time for the event. The property is
   REQUIRED in "VEVENT" calendar components. Events can have a start
   date/time but no end date/time. In that case, the event does not take
   up any time.

Without the DTSTART there is no date or time to use for the event!

I am interested to know what is generating the invalid VEVENT.  And if you
think there is anything better we could be doing about it.

I have reproduced this problem reported in an email to GPE list from  
wolfheader <wolfheader at ercist.iscas.ac.cn>...

I run calendar program with category
patch.I open edit-categories window, then I select one category and
delete it, focus lost, and I click edit button, calendar program crash.
