[Gpe-list] cvs files

I was looking through the GPE tree (from subversion) and noticed a
number of ".cvsignore" files.  Are these simply left over from a time
that CVS was used as the version control system, or are they being
maintained for another purpose?  I found over 100 of them.

If they are no longer needed, would now be a good time to do a "mass
cleanup" to remove them?
