I've submitted a request to freedesktop.org.  I haven't worked with
them before, so I'm not sure how receptive they'll be or how quickly
they'll respond, but I'll post when I hear anything.

On a related note, the 'Application' category has been deprecated.  Is
it still needed by Matchbox, or any other GPE utilities/tools, or
should we remove it from the GPE application desktop entries?
