[Gpe-list] Maemo packages built from current SVN

I have built a set of packages for GPE on Maemo from the current SVN (actually
from a snapshot of the the SVN at 20070316T0000Z). These packages are
available from my repository: please see
http://www.cobb.uk.net/770/index.html for details of that repository.
The packages there include four applications (all in the user/pim category):
gpe-calendar, gpe-contacts, gpe-todo and gpesyncd (let me know if there are
other applications which have been hildon-ized and should be built). It also
includes the libraries necessary to support them. These install and work for
me on my 770. I do not know whether they will work on the N800 or on other
software versions.
I built these because the various packages available elsewhere are not
consistent with each other (for example I believe it is possible to install
an old gpe-calendar and a new gpesyncd such that they will not work
together). And because they do not reflect the latest SVN changes.
It would be good if current Maemo GPE users considered installing these new
packages and testing them (reporting bugs at http://bugs.linuxtogo.org/ as
usual). I do intend to rebuild new packages when some more bugs have been
fixed (and, of course, if/when there is a formal GPE release).
One word of warning: I wanted to create consistent and clear version numbering
so I used the snapshot date. Unfortunately, this means that some packages
are not regarded as newer than the versions already in other repositories.
So, I recommend removing downloads.kernelconcepts.de and eko.one.pl from your
sources list before upgrading. Maybe the maintainers of those repositories
would consider removing their GPE packages? Also, for this reason you should
not attempt an apt-get upgrade: remove all versions of all relevant packages
(including the libraries) you may have currently installed before installing
the new packages. The complete list of packages is: libmimedir-gnome1
libgpewidget1 libgpepimc0 libeventdb1 libtododb0 libgpevtype0 libcontactsdb1
gpesyncd gpe-icons libschedule1 libxsettings-client0 libhandoff1 libsoup2.2
gpe-calendar gpe-contacts gpe-todo.
Note that I plan to submit the packages to the Maemo Unofficial Debs project
which should mean that, one day, they should be able to be automatically
built for different ITOS releases. MUD is also a convenient way to build
packages for testing if you are a developer. In the future I intend to use
it to automatically do nightly builds from SVN and put them in my
experimental repository.
Please let me know of any problems with these packages or suggestions for
improving them.
Graham
