basically i like the idea of these release cycles but concerning GPE i don't
think that the current development progress justifies these kind of releases. I
guess too many things would just stay the same... even if they are developed
further - think about gpe-calendar which is actively developed for quite some
time now but not released for a long time.

Basically a good idea too but the same problem: The GPE project is too small to
get major benefit from this right now.

That's true - its definitely something to desire, but before we can introduce
something like this we need to be in a situation that we can make these release
cycles and naming schemes useful. At first that would mean to have more active
development power and the introduction of rules that make sure application
changes are released before the GPE release for testing.
