Hi guys,

I'm currently working for OpenMoko[1] on the OpenMoko[2] application framework.

As you may know the Neo1973 will be the first truly open smartphone
sold in high quantities and this will be a chance to propose a
standard API for accessing low level specifics like

* power for components (gsm,gps,bt,audio)
* backlight power and brightness
* signal strength (gsm,gps,bt)
* suspend resume
* alarm clock
* audio routing

I'd like to start with
http://svn.gnome.org/viewcvs/*checkout*/gnome-power-manager/trunk/docs/dbus-interface.html,
however in the sense of freedesktop.org[3] embracing both KDE, GNOME and
the others(...), it might make more sense to use the well-known
org.freedesktop or probably the new, more specialized,
org.freesmartphone from freesmartphone.org[4] prefix.

Anyway, more important are two questions

a) how should the API look like
b) where and how will it be implemented

a) is what I'd like to discuss with you in this thread, so I'd be
grateful for your input basing on the dbus-interface.html posted above.

b) I guess this is probably going to be realized in the new devmand project from
linuxtogo.org. Florian, what are your current plans for this? I
probably need to work on this very soon, so if you have some code
already available, I'd like to take a look.
