Hi,

I just read http://syslog.movial.fi/uploads/gtk_without_pointer.pdf which had some
interesting points about navigation, but the most interesting part was:

5.4 GPE
The GPE Palmtop Environment provides a user interface environment for handheld devices.
It’s not a single piece of software but an entire environment of components. We picked GPE
widget library and couple of applications — text editor, file manager and browser.
GPE Widget toolkit was easily installable and it contains interesting GTK+-based widgets
for embedded use. They mostly benefit PDAs, though. GPE based applications were
considerably harder to get to work. Even though GPE project recommends that autotools
would be used that doesn’t seem the case always. They are also dependant of some specific
versions of GPE  widget library, so getting them to work is not so easy. Applications are
designed for PDAs, so they contain menus and toolbars, which are difficult to activate
with our setup. Application  logic and UI are mixed in the code, so modifying UI means
rewriting the application.
