- GPE is free and GPE and all related pieces of software need to be free and
should stay free for ever.
- There are reasons that might make it necessary for someone to use closed
software which is not desirable but I do not want people to be forced not to
base on GPE. The reason for this is simple: I like what we do and I can even
feel happy if someone who does not makes all its software free likes things I
wrote and can make use of it. There are still quite some responsibilities that
come with the LGPL - its far away from what e.g. BSD licenses allow.
- I think that it is easier to involve people and companies that are less
experienced with open source in GPE if libraries are LGPL. Educating these about
not to make use of the possibility of closed components is way better than
making them not to use open source at all.
- We are not the only project which has gone through discussion and quite some
big projects (e.g. like Gnome) live pretty well with the same licensing policy.
