gpe-aerial tries to detect the correct interface automatically. With which
driver are you using it?

The simplest way would be to use the builtin X screensaver. You should be able
to enable it using "xset".

That would be possible. Which distribution do you use?
It might be worth to run "xrandr" in a terminal and check if it offers different
orientations. That might help to track the reason for this behavior.
