I'm no longer sure Contacts are working fine -- I have seen some problems.

I have looked at the code and I am now sure the problem is that gpesyncd does
not understand the current database format.

I am about to try modifying gpesyncd to use the vcard/ical import and export
code from the latest versions of gpe-calendar and gpe-contacts instead of
manipulating the database directly. Does anyone know of any reason why that
wouldn't work? It would, of course, make gpesyncd dependent on various
shared libraries but no one would be using gpesyncd unless they have either
gpe-calendar or gpe-contacts installed.

If this works, I would strongly encourage the maintainers of gpe-contacts and
gpe-calendar to move the vcard/ical import/export code from the applications
into the appropriate libraries. That way it could be maintained in one place
and gpesyncd would remain up to date with any future changes.

Is anyone else already working on these problems with gpesyncd? If so, I
won't waste my time (I would be happy to help, of course) but, if not, I will
have a go.

By the way, I haven't quite worked out what to do about multiple calendar
support. My initial plan is to just use the first calendar I find but later
on we could add a mechanism either to specify the calendar on the command
line or even add more commands to allow the calendars to be listed and
selected, which would mean that the gpe plugin for opensync could choose to
synchronise one or more calendars or all calendars. But all that is for the
future.
