Here is some more information that may help solve the bug (which is important
to me, since it makes certain repeats unusable to me). I'd be happy to supply
more information if necessary.

My conclusion is that the problem lies in how gpe-syncd reads the events in
from the calendar. The reason is that in gpe-calendar the event looks ok, but
when using gpe-syncd it is corrupted. See details below.

I use the following version of gpe-calendar and gpe-syncd on my Nokia N800: 
2.8+maemo+svn20080114-1 and on my Linux Ubuntu I use: multisync-gui
0.91.0+svn20061129-feisty1 and Evolution 2.10.1-0ubuntu2.

I synced this event from Evoluion to gpe-calendar using multisync-gui.

When I look at the event in gpe-calendar application on n800 it looks ok, it
starts at 20060127 and repeats three times. But when I look at it through
gpe-syncd I get this:
