I have tested kdrive-1.4 few months ago. I don't exactly remember, but I
think I have had the same problem, when X was started by gpe-dm. I have
not analyzing this problem in deep, because 1.4 was early testing
version in this time.

When Xfbdev was started from console, it worked (I was able to test my
keyboard input patch mentioned in another mail).

If you can confirm it, I would suspect that one of the xinit or xsession
scripts is not compatible with 1.4.
