I figured out what happens. Sometimes (not always? if I run a small AVI
this doesn't happen) mplayer goes nuts and starts to write to unaligned
addresses. My syslog is then full of this:
Oct 14 16:54:22 spitz user.warn kernel: Alignment trap: mplayer (1681)
PC=0x002ea4a0 Instr =0xe794c1c3 Address=0x0063d047 FSR
0x013 Oct 14 16:54:22 spitz user.warn kernel: Alignment trap: mplayer
(1681) PC=0x002ea4a0 Instr =0xe794c1c3 Address=0x0063d049 FSR
0x013 Oct 14 16:54:22 spitz user.warn kernel: Alignment trap: mplayer
(1681) PC=0x002ea4a0 Instr =0xe794c1c3 Address=0x0063d04a FSR
0x013 Oct 14 16:54:22 spitz user.warn kernel: Alignment trap: mplayer
(1681) PC=0x002ea4a0 Instr =0xe794c1c3 Address=0x0063d04b FSR
0x013
And obviously writing a syslog entry for every mplayer instruction
brings the device to its knees. So it looks like a mplayer bug.
