My personal experience is that the system (with ipkg-link) goes a bit 
'wonky' if you boot it without the card or remove the card while 
running.  In my experience, it is nothing a reboot can't fix, but I also 
don't presume that my experience has shown _all_ the potholes that are 
possible to hit with this - although I do define "stupid user" more 
often than I would like to admit :)

The problem with some of the devices with smaller flash space is that if 
you want to use flite or other LARGE applications.  You really need to 
have it installed on external storage - I'll check out the options Koen 
listed to see if any of them are better for my purposes.
