This is a GPE issue. Actually there are lots of GPE issues right now,
there are other settings that do not save, and some settings that go
nuts when you try to change them (e.g. terminal font size). We have
either to wait for new GPE fixes, or try some other window manager in
the meantime. I'm going to try Xfce.
