You are absolutely correct.  sorry.

Nevertheless, the card, which worked fine in OZ, does nothing in  
Angstrom.  ifconfig doesn't even see the card - it only reports the  
local loopback.  I'm stumped and don' know what to try next - hence  
my "despair".
