I have no idea why the Z should be claiming sftp.  Like I said, either 
because of user error or software limitation, I could not get the 
default ssh client on the Z to do sftp, though it did connect with ssh. 
  There may be ssh options I did not know about, but since I know and 
trust openssh I just installed that.
