OK, the difference is that I actually upgraded the firmware on the card.
I'm not dynamically loading it in angstrom.
If I move my card to windows or any other system, the firmware is still
1.7.4 (and I think mine is 1.7.4, not 1.7.2)
hostap includes some utilities for doing this, although they required a
kernel recompilation for me (debian etch) - I think to 'deter' most users.
I don't have the details with me right now, but if you can't find it
googling, I can dig it up. There are also windows utilities available, but
the problem with those is you need to have a driver loaded to use them - I
was not able to find any driver for the WCF12 that worked under windows
(non-winCE). Hoenstly - the linux hostap method works quite well,
kernel-recopmpilation not withstanding.... :P
I don't know why it might be different with a flashed firmware as opposed
to a loaded firmware, but it certainly seems to fall within the realm of
possibility.
