Hi Team,
I am wondering if anyone can give me some quick guidance on the status of
Opie on Angstrom as I've just installed the latest release on my SL-C3000 to
experiment. I have a few questions, and wonder if anyone on the Opie team
can give me a few pointers? Then I also have a 'generic' question for
everyone please.
1> Sync, Is there a recommended way of using Opie with a Desktop to sync
Contacts, Email, Notes, and so on? I've decided to try Opie as I like the
PIM apps, and GPE was always a nightmare to try to get working, so is there
a simple way to sync Opie with Evo2 or other Desktop app?
2> Media, is there a plan for Opie MediaPlayer to be built? I've installed
XMMS and Gnome-Mplayer, but neither have desktop icons, and running from
shell results in a 'cannot open display' error. If there is one thing I'm
desperate for it's a media player, preferably with a skin with finger sized
buttons, so if I'm using the player in the car as an MP3 player i can hit
buttons with quick finger hits, not scrabble for the stylus. I'm MORE than
happy to try to try to learn how to create a skin, if someone can let me
know if there is a target Media app.
3> GPS, GPSDrive is Ok, but can anyone suggest a better Navigation system?
I've been looking at Navit which seems excellent, but again getting this
working under Opie / Angstrom seems almost impossible. Are there any plans
to try to add strong GPS software?
Finally, I've been following the instructions on creating a build enviroment
so I can maybe try to help bring some of my suggestions forward. I would
really love to help in trying to build some packages and proposing them to
the Angstrom team, but over and over Bitbake stumps me. My last attempt
ended up with an error "Cache variable not set" when I tried to build the
images. I'm running Ubuntu Hardy, and have looked and looked for guides on
how to set up a working build enviroment, but there seems to be little help.
Can anyone on the Dev team please look at the guide on setting up the build
enviroment, and think it thru like us mere-mortals!? Go from start, step by
step, and document what you need to do to get it all running. Then hopefully
I (and others) could bring more suggestions and offers into Angstrom. I'd
really love to get involved with the Angstrom project, but just need a
little help on getting started.
Thanks for listening, and any assistance you can give,
Bon
