I don't see much problem here either except that maintenance scripts
for such feeds should me written with more attentiveness, like using
"rsync --delete" instead of mere "cp".
And just don't let me ramble on the matter of ARM Linux and its
concept of "random defconfig per random device" ;-).

Well, educating people is a bit out of scope here, I'd like to
discuss technical issue. Using aforementioned technique will allow to
maintain at least consistency of OE deploy dir regardless of changes
and their nature (be it random or intended).
As for the changes which actually happen, I hope you understand well
their aim - to get rid of hard ARM Linux' legacy of treating each
device as something randomly special, which reduces to complete mess
with mere dozen of devices, while hundreds are in queue. And making
one good meta-configuration suitable for all devices is not easy and
thus iterative process, asymptotically improving the state, but
exposing pretty evident issues in OE as we discuss.
