There is only /dev/input/event0, /dev/input/event1 and /dev/input/mice
in the booted image. Checked it with my S99lsdev which runs right before
opie starts up, resulting /etc/devices.ls is also attached. As you can
see there is no /dev/input/touchscreen0 in the image.

I do not have any network access to the PDA (wifi is not supported
currently on it, this is one of the main reasons trying to use an
updated image).

I tried to interpret the link you gave but I have no idea what is this
(except that it shows a testcase for a PDA). But what is HaReT? And I
guess ACX is a wifi hardware but I'm almost sure this is not the
hardware of my PDA. But I should stress that this is only a guess from
me as I don't understand what about the page is.

Yes I noteiced that. I spoke several hours with Marek Vasut, who is
doing major development on PalmLD kernel support, but he only said that
did I tried TP2 image (Technology Preview). I noticed several hour later
(after downloading the image), that this is not a build instruction what
I would like to write, instead it is a prebuilt image (also several I
have a lot of performance problems with it beisde that I want to build
my own image from scratch. The main reason for this is that I also want
to do software development also on the device to optimize used program
for my style.).

The solution what you mentioned (fix it in OE) is what I head for. I
started the work sometime (this is surely not the right word but it did
not come to my mind) in january, and I did not gave it up :) Now it
seems that I see the light (about 2 weeks ago I managed to boot it), so
I surely will not give up from here :).
